DAMIAN KLEIN

Damian Klein received his first cello lessons in Konstanz and, starting in 2017, as a pre-college student at the Musikgymnasium Schloss Belvedere in Weimar where he studied with Prof. Tim Stolzenburg. Since September 2021, he has been studying for his Bachelor degree in Lübeck with Prof. Troels Svane.
Damian has participated in masterclasses with Maria Kliegel, Wen-Sinn Yang, Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, Ludwig Quandt, Gustav Rivinius, and Julian Steckel, among others.
Damian was also a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Germany (Bundesjugendorchester). From 2022 and 2024, he was the cello academist for the Kammerakademie Potsdam (KAP), where he had the opportunity to work closely with musicians like Emmanuel Pahud, Vaclav Luks, Alexander Melnikov and Tabea Zimmermann. Furthermore, he had the opportunity to play in the most important concert halls in Germany and to take part in several CD recordings of the orchestra. In the 2024-25 season, he begins his trial period with the Munich Chamber Orchestra (MKO).
Damian received chamber music lessons from Heime Müller, Silke Avenhaus, Noah Bendix-Balgley, Steven Isserlis and Antonello Manacorda among others. He also participated in the chamber music campus Mit-Music-Miteinander at Kronberg Academy.
Damian Klein has won several first prizes at the German national youth competition Jugend Musiziert, as well as third prize at the school competition of the Musikgymnasium Schloss Belvedere. He also won the WDR-Klassikpreis der Stadt Münster, MDR-Förderpreis, a special prize of the Beethovenstiftung Bonn and a special prize of the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben. Damian also received several scholarships from the Ad Infinitum Foundation and from the foundation Yehudi Menuhin – Live Music Now.
Damian has performed as a soloist with the Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie (Bodensee Philharmonie) Konstanz and the orchestra of the Musikgymnasium Schloss Belvedere. He has performed in concert halls such as the Berlin Philharmonic and the Beethovenhaus Bonn. His concerts have been broadcast by WDR and MDR, and he has played in concert tours to Italy, Austria, Belgium, Poland, South Africa and the USA.
